After all the rains we had last week, we were so overdue to get out and explore. What was on the itinerary? the open meadows of Irvine, so amazing!!

Last week I photographed the Lawfirm of John Perry and his staff 25 members at his offices in Encino. I met John and his staff through one of his staff members whom I had photographed her wedding. My line of business does rely upon word of mouth and this is a good example of that.
Is this not an angel? What a treat photographing these two over at San Juan Capistrano. I’ve been photographing them since she was about 2 and she’s such a sweetie. Dylan can walk into a Pottery Barn/Gap or Calvin for Kids photo campaign and just do some serious selling.
The Bocanegra Family of Newport

Holiday Family Photography
November is Family Portrait Month and here is a beautiful family at a recent morning session in Irvine, CA. They are smiling and looking very happy at their favorite neighborhood park, a break from all the activities at home with a 1 year old. She’s so cute!! I’ve always been drawn to graphic design, I remember the days when all I had to work with was a Xerox copier and all I could to was to cut pieces of graphics and tape them together on a page to create a whole page of graphics. Hard to imagine but it wasn’t long ago, but things have changed just a little right (wink). I create and include a custom holiday card design for all of my clients. These are unique one of a kind designs different than what retailers put together.

Family Holiday Portrait
1 year old sessions are a big challenge let me tell you. You have this cute adorable mini human running all around you and it’s just cute moment after cute moment but boy oh boy you better be ready and that’s where the challenge comes in. I like to bring them into an enviroment where lighting is really good and where colors are complimentary for the ocassion. With it being fall now The Lab was a nice setting and I was ready, we walked away with some really beautiful photos of Addision running around and marking her milestone of just learning to walk. I also photographer Jae & Barb with Addison for a really cool holiday card photo. Hope you enjoy these. =)

And who is this beautiful baby? Meet Baby Isabella, (love the name, sounds like royalty) daughter of Kellie & Diego of Newport Beach. We will be photographing Bella through Baby’s 1st year portrait plan. We’ll see her at 3,6,9, & 12months to record a baby’s 1st year milestones. Already she’s off to a great start with this Newborn Session. As you see her in these photos she is about 14days old, with skin still pealing and smelling so new and so good. It was a treat to record her first few days and looking forward to seeing her again.
You’re committed, wohoo!!
You want a great family portrait, a symbol of the American Family.
In this step we’ll address the question of , Which beach?
In the OC the beaches between Newport Beach & down south past Laguna are all gorgeous. The sand tends to have a tan color to it very warm and beautiful. Some beaches are now requiring a photography permit (specially the state park beach likes Crystal Cove.) I personally love Laguna! There’s just something about it that evokes the California Riviera feel.
The difference between one beach to the other would be location, convenience & privacy. Some of the beaches are flocked by tourists, others by locals and there are some really hidden private gems like Moss Point, or Shaw’s cove. I prefer my clients be completely comfortable in the environment they choose.
One of the most beautiful busy beaches I’ve photographed is Main beach at Laguna, which is pretty typical to find more than one photographer at once even among the tourist crowds. In-spite of this I still recommend it!
I’ve also photographed in the Newport Beach to Huntington Beach area, mostly where the two meet. I find the sand around this area is much clearer which reflects light back under the chin and neck areas, this is very pleasing for portraits when combined with my flash, umbrella and the reflectors that I use. So I highly recommend Huntington Beach as well.
If you’re in the Los Angeles area, Santa Monica is the by far the most tourist flocked of all beach as is Venice. I wouldn’t recommend neither of these two because if you drive 5-10 minutes north from here you’ll find the Malibu area beaches which are so beautiful. If you’re closer to the LAX area, Manhattan beach is by far a gem of a beach and I also like Long Beach but you have to be selective here.
So speak with your photographer about this, discuss the look and feel that you’re looking for and head out for a great Family Beach Portrait.
This family was photographed at Main Beach in Laguna, they are from Wisconsin vacationing in Orange County.

The OC.. where families RULE!
If like me you live in Orange County and perhaps you’re a young family, maybe a newborn has just been ushered or what about those toddlers that are growing, well chances are you’ve been tugging at the husband or the wife to have a family portrait done or maybe just want to update and old one.
Families portraits are awesome. They are like a chronograph stop in the walk of life. Once it’s recorded it’s there to appreciate what God has blessed you with. In no time the portrait becomes a treasure and you can look back and say wow!!
The good news is with the Pacific Ocean as our playground Orange County is one of the most pristine locations to have a family portrait. There are countless beaches up north, down south, beautiful weather practically the whole year, and very beautiful people to boot.
You’re convinced you should have one and now on to face the most challenging roadblock to getting it done, the commitment. I encourage you to spend some time talking with your significant other about the great benefits for you and the children about getting one done. I think if you talk about it and you realize that your better of investing in a portrait than say a $100 pair of jeans, you’ll end up with a treasure for your children which will last a last time. I also encourage you to pray about it, I do. I pray about practically everything that I want and when I do I’m directed by non other than creator of the universe, how awesome is that.
Enjoy!
